Psychological assessments evaluate your learning, thinking and behavior. Assessments can vary from individual to individual, however, they usually include testing, interviews, observation and consultation. At Central Counselling and Assessment Services Inc. we offer a wide variety of assessments.
A neuropsychological assessment provides specific information about the presence and nature of deficits related to neurological damage or dysfunction and its associated cognitive, behavioral and psychological problems. Neuropsychological testing typically covers a range of cognitive domains including intelligence, learning, attention, memory, receptive and expressive language, visuo-perceptual abilities, motor functioning, executive functioning (e.g. inhibition, planning), and psychopathology. The aim of a neuropsychological assessment is to provide a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and specific guidelines regarding return-to-work as well as to establish a baseline against which improvement or deterioration can be compared.
Neuropsychological assessments maybe conducted for the following:
● Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
● Developmental disorders or significant developmental delays (e.g.: learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorders).
● Cognitive dysfunction following brain injury due to accident, infection or disease (e.g. traumatic brain injury/concussion, brain tumors, stroke).
● Cognitive disturbance related to neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease).
● Cognitive dysfunction in mental disorders (e.g. Schizophrenia, depression, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder).
The cost for a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment (non-legal) is $4000.00.
The cost for a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment (medical legal) is $5000.00.
Psychoeducational assessments are completed as part of a process to determine if someone has learning issues/disabilities, difficulty in acquisition of academic skills, and attention problems (ADD, ADHD etc.) This type of assessment helps us to understand the student's current and potential levels of functioning, as well as areas of strength and weakness. Recommendations are made to aid the student to succeed in the classroom.
Mental competence is the key to rational decision making. Unfortunately, disease or injury can affect the mind making it hard for a person of any age to make sound decisions. Sometimes it may be impossible for the person to look after themselves or their affairs. As mental competence is the basis for many activities in life, there are times when a person must be assessed to determine mental competent to enter contracts, write a will, get married, provide consent to medical treatment, drive a vehicle or give a power of attorney. Our laws assume every adult is mentally competent until a court decides otherwise. This recognizes people’s capacity to understand the nature and consequences of their actions and their fundamental right to make decisions about themselves and their affairs
